The second half of last week was packed with excursions. Thursday we went to the Latin Quarter and the Musée de Cluny, which I enjoyed well enough. I think the way it became a conglomerate of different periods is very interesting, but my favorite part of the building is the vaulted ceiling in one of the rooms in the medieval portion. It was a challenge to draw but I think it comes across how I intended.

Friday was extremely busy, we spent the day on the Île de la Cité, going through the Conciergerie, Saint Chapelle, and Notre Dame. There were lots of pictures I took that I thought were good compositions, but the one that I ended up drawing is from Notre Dame. It’s a bit haphazard but you can see the vision.

Throughout this trip I have been dealing with leg and foot pain after each excursion, but it really started to get bad after Friday. On Saturday, when we went to Versailles, while the palace was gorgeous, by the time I finished walking through it, I was in some of the worst pain I’ve ever been in. Instead of touring the gardens on foot, a took a tram tour, which was a much needed break, though I didn’t get to see much of the actual gardens. I was also unable to take any pictures of things to draw that had compositions suited to the size of my sketchbook, but there is one of the chapel in the palace that I think would do well on my 12×36” canvas.

Until next time!
