Hi, I’m Rebecca Settlemyer, and after a rough start to this trip I feel like I am settling in pretty well. Causing a bit of an incident on the plane by getting very very motion sick was not on the bingo card but we press forth. The heatwave Was on the bingo card but it was so much worse than I had mentally prepared for.

My dorm room is lovely, though the cute vines are a habitat for small creatures, adding some risk to opening the window for extended periods of time.

When I was in 8th grade, my world geography teacher gave me a very nice sketchbook that a former student gave him. Supposedly, this sketchbook was made in Paris. He told me that if I ever went, that I should use it while I’m there. Well, about 8 years later and here I am! So, over the course of this trip I am going to sketch places that I find pretty or interesting, and hopefully at the end I will have one that I feel is worth turning into an oil painting.

This sketch is of the sculpture area of the Richelieu wing of the Louvre, which was incredible, though incredibly confusing to navigate.

The other personal art project I will be doing on this trip is taking photos with my film camera. I have 7 rolls of film and hope to shoot all of them by the end of this trip. None of these photos will be viewable on this blog for the time being, as I cannot develop the film until I return to Mary Washington in the fall.
